Pierson graduate earns unprecedented perfect record in mathematics

The Pierson Middle and High School mathematics department is proud to celebrate an extraordinary accomplishment by recent graduate and Class of 2025 valedictorian, Kai Basseches.
Over the course of his years at Pierson, Basseches earned a flawless record on every major mathematics assessment available to him. He scored 100% on the Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II Regents exams; achieved top marks of 5 on the AP Statistics and AP Computer Science exams; earned the highest possible score of 7 on the IB Computer Science exam and posted a perfect 800 on the math section of the SAT. He also won a Gold Medal at the Long Island Math Fair.
In his final year, Kai capped off his record by earning a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam and a 7 on the IB Mathematics Analysis HL exam. Taken together, these results represent a perfect 1129 out of 1129 possible points across standardized mathematics assessments during his time at Pierson, an achievement nearly impossible to replicate.
“Kai’s achievements are nothing short of remarkable,” said mathematics teacher Chase Mallia. “His perfect record represents years of discipline, intellectual curiosity, and a deep passion for mathematics. It has been an honor to watch him grow as a student and scholar.”
Basseches will continue his studies at Yale University, where, although currently undecided, he plans to pursue a mathematics-related field. The Pierson community is proud to celebrate his achievements and looks forward to seeing what he accomplishes next.
