Pierson junior shines at NYSSMA All-State Music Festival

Savannah Ramono, a junior at Pierson High School, was selected to participate in the prestigious NYSSMA All-State Music Festival in Rochester, NY, earlier this month,
performing in the All-State Symphony Orchestra as a flutist.
Ramono, who began playing the flute at nine years old, was one of only four flutists in her orchestra and earned the distinction of first chair, second flute. She described the experience as exhilarating, saying she felt more excited than nervous and thoroughly enjoyed the rehearsals and meeting other students who share her passion for music.
Selection for NYSSMA All-State is a remarkable honor. Thousands of students across New York State audition each year, performing Level VI solos for certified adjudicators. Only a few hundred of the most talented musicians are chosen to participate, after a monthslong process involving score review, recommendations and careful placement in one of the All-State ensembles. Being selected places Ramono among the elite young musicians in New York and marks a major milestone in her musical journey.
Reflecting on her achievements, Ramono offered advice for aspiring flutists: “Have fun, enjoy yourself, and practice a lot. Also, think about where you’re going with this skill.” Her dedication and love for music continue to inspire her peers and the Pierson High School community.
