Pierson High School musicians inspire elementary students with live chamber performance

Students from Sag Harbor’s Pierson High School recently joined Sag Harbor Elementary School students during their Morning Program for a special instrumental music performance. Five Pierson students formed a chamber ensemble that captivated elementary students, teachers and families alike.
Led by Pierson High School orchestra teacher Brandon Buscemi, the performance introduced younger students to key musical concepts, including how different instruments produce higher or lower pitches. Using engaging, age-appropriate examples — such as comparing the deep sound of a bass instrument to the higher pitch of a flute, and likening pitch differences to Monsters, Inc. characters Mike Wazowski and Sulley — the musicians made music education both fun and accessible.
The collaboration highlighted the power of mentorship through music and showcased the talent and leadership of Pierson’s student musicians while sparking excitement for music among Sag Harbor’s youngest learners.
