Pierson’s National Honor Society partners with Sag Harbor Helpers

Students from Sag Harbor’s Pierson High School National Honor Society recently joined forces with Sag Harbor Helpers to prepare and deliver home-cooked meals to local senior residents, marking the first year of what organizers hope will become a meaningful new tradition of service.
Student volunteers gathered to prepare individualized meal bundles filled with salad, pasta and meatballs, bread, and dessert. Each bag also included small games, stickers and handwritten notes for a personal touch. Another team of student volunteers served as drivers, following a list of homes throughout the community to deliver the meals.
“Service is one of the pillars of NHS, and this was a wonderful way to live that out locally,” said Clio Halweil, a 12 th grade student at Pierson and NHS president. She added that the group plans to host another round of meal preparation and delivery in the spring, when new members will have been inducted.
For many students, the experience was as rewarding as it was impactful. “It is really fun to do volunteer work with friends,” said NHS member Viola Goodale. “I’ve always wanted to be a part of NHS, and I’d love to do something like this in college.”
Through collaboration, compassion and community spirit, Pierson’s NHS students demonstrated how small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference close to home.
