Pierson students attend Model UN conference

Sag Harbor’s Pierson High School Model UN students recently traveled to New York City to participate in the National High School Model United Nations conference, one of the most prestigious student diplomacy events in the world.
Currently celebrating its 52nd year, NHSMUN boasts the largest and most diverse attendee base in the world, with participants from more than 130 countries throughout its history.
The conference gave students the opportunity to experience the theory and practice of international relations firsthand, with sessions featuring guest speakers from the United Nations, government and international affairs. The visiting experts program helped connect global issues discussed in the student’s committees to real-world situations and encouraged participants to act in their own communities after the conference.
The conference is organized by IMUNA, a not-for-profit educational organization formally associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications, dedicated to global issues education through simulation. Pierson High School teacher Richard Terry prepared the students and chaperoned them for the weekend conference.
