Pierson students celebrate a week of reading

Students at Pierson Middle High School spent the week celebrating literacy and community during their annual Great Read-In, culminating in a day dedicated entirely to the joy of reading.
The celebration began with the Scholastic Book Fair, made possible through the efforts of parent and student volunteers. The week built toward Wednesday’s Great Read-In Day, a highlight event that brought together students in grades 6–8 for a full schedule of engaging, teacher-led activities.
Throughout the day, students explored a variety of literary experiences, including Earth Day-themed poetry, an author study and a lively round of book-themed Jeopardy. A standout moment came with a visit from acclaimed children’s author Gordon Korman, whose talk inspired students who had previously read his novel “Restart” as part of their summer reading.
In addition to structured activities, students and teachers set aside time for independent reading, creating a shared, schoolwide appreciation for books and storytelling. The day concluded with a celebratory gathering featuring book-themed prizes and gift cards generously donated by local businesses and Pierson families.
“All in all, it was a great week celebrating the joy of reading,” said Jamie Mott, Pierson librarian.
