Reflections of America Showcases Pierson Students’ Creative Voices

Students at Sag Harbor’s Pierson High School recently presented Reflections of America: Student Perspectives at 250, a student art exhibition commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States through a creative exploration of American identity and visual culture.
Centered on iconic imagery and symbolism, the exhibition drew inspiration from influential artists such as Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Cindy Sherman, Edward Hopper, and Ansel Adams, among others, as students reinterpret familiar symbols, places, and cultural references through a contemporary lens.
Working across painting, photography, fashion, printmaking, and mixed media, students engaged in an in-depth creative process focused on experimentation with composition, color, texture, and form. Recognizable American imagery served as a starting point for personal expression, resulting in a diverse body of work that reflects both individual perspective and a broader dialogue about national identity and lived experience.
The exhibition is presented in partnership with the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum for the second consecutive year, reinforcing a continued commitment to arts education and the celebration of student artists within the community. Guided by art teacher Elizabeth Cataletto, alongside Joe Bartolotto and Sophia Santella, the project highlighted the collaborative spirit and dedication of Pierson’s arts faculty with student creativity and voice.
